By day, Paycheck?s is a gathering place for neighborhood regulars. At night, it turns into a haven for 20-something rock, metal and punk hipsters. Opened in 1980, Paycheck?s Lounge is known as the place to hear up-and-coming alt rock and new wave bands. In fact, the White Stripes played some of the first gigs here. Although it has lost some of its luster, Paycheck?s still draws a strong crowd on the weekends. Since a tornado pretty much leveled the bar, Paycheck?s has been going through some changes. The atmosphere has come to reflect an unintentional retro feel. The concert room is lined with brick, and some well-worn tables and chairs still dot the landscape. During the weekends, you can find 3 to 4 bands on a adequate stage with awesome sound.
